Food Stops
Although the markets are much about shopping, they do not stop there. The local food and drink vendors are so delicious and you even get to watch them prepare much of it at the stalls in front of you!
Popular food that the markets offer includes:
Large hams roasted on spits, tasty barbeques sausages, flatbread topped with garlic, smoked meat dumplings, and even pancakes! And of course they must include some stalls for those who have a little sweet tooth thus there is also a variety of cakes and sweets to choose from all over the Christmas market!
The Tree
The most impressive of the Christmas Trees in Prague is the mighty tree at the Old Town Square that is transported directly from the forests of the Liberec region of the Czech Republic. The huge, real tree is the centerpiece of the market displayed right in front of the Church of Tyn. The tree is covered with a beautiful array of lights that cover the dark skyline. The lights are switched on at 4:30pm every day giving visitors even more of a reason to visit the city’s spectacular Christmas Markets.
The Wenceslas Square also displays a beautiful Christmas tree that turns its lights on at 5pm every day.
Once the Christmas trees are lit, Prague displays lighting ceremonies that are repeated every hour! Can this place get any better?- yes! These ceremonies are accompanied by spirited music making the Czech fairytale come to life.
The Prague Christmas markets are open every day from November 30th to January 6th including on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day! It is time to come and immerse yourself in the holiday spirit of Prague with mulled wine and gingerbread while also doing some gift shopping for your loved ones for the holidays!
