Corona-cation is the vibe of how the summer of 2020 is going to be evolving for many around the world. Whether its professional executives or the self employed, one common element is that the kids are out for the summer and we need to occupy them. This year things seem different. The last day of school was anything but celebratory. The home routine needs a revamp and due to COVID-19 at home activities need to a healthy change. So Penguin Random House (along with Tundra Books and Penguin Teen titles) send us some lovely reading material that the kids have already started exploring!

My youngest is graduating from kindergarten- so he truly enjoyed the cheeky story

If you Happen to Have a Dinosaur

Written By Linda Bailey and illustrated by Colin Jack- this book is a joyful treat of funny domestic uses that the younger audience in my house truly enjoyed. Even the older kids had a good chuckle at the imaginative read. The book is filled with funny actions by the dinosaur, it got the kids talking, laughing and looking forward to ‘reading time’ on their schedules. Books are a fun way to travel through your thoughts and children’s books can be so light and uplifting - we highly recommend ordering it!

Innocent Heroes : Stories of animals in the First World War

The next one up was an interesting choice by my third born. He has a sensitive soul and was drawn to war stories about saviour animals by Sigmund Brouwer. Based on eight connected fictional stories about a Canadian platoon in WW1, these are beautiful heartfelt stories of brave and smart animals. He is still going through the book with me, feeling inspired and curious as we read along. The aim is to read along with him this summer, snuggle up and get impressed with these innocent heroes.

From the series of A Royal Guardian to Monster Slaying and written by best selling author Kelly Armstrong, The Gryphon’s Lair is an adventurous choice by my eldest son who soon turns 11. A combination of dangerous quests and deadly monsters, this book is a perfect read to indulge in this summer. A page turner that focuses on intricate details, I see him occupied, reading away and enjoying the book on his own down time. If your child enjoys adventure and has a wild imagination- go for this book!

The Beauty of The Moment

So, I also have a teenager in the house. My daughter was offered to read The Beauty of the Moment by Tanaz Bhathena. A teenage love story of Susan and Malcolm, this book is relevant and relatable. Her feedback was that it’s definitely a fascinating read and pulled her away from Tik Tok every once and a while, to actually finish the book and experience culture and family drama. It circled back to all the similarities and difference that teenagers are so aware of in today’s time. Happy Reading.
